Blog Post 1 – My Truth Quest
My life has been dedicated to recovering original Christianity. Convinced that the real thing would produce much better fruit than we are seeing in the modern American church, I launched out into a quest for restoration. The desperate quest led me away from my beloved denominational roots. Certain there could be nothing lacking in the original Christian experience, I was determined to investigate without bounds. By this point, I was convinced that increased sincerity was not the answer. I had tried that from my teens to my thirties. Trying harder and harder was only taking a toll on my health and increasing the disappointment. Then, I thought if we were to return to the simple methods and practices of the early church we would get early church results. I thought maybe we needed a revival which would restore us to the right place, but I have been through seasons of revival that did not bring a satisfactory end to my search. Finally, after several decades, I realized that the problem was primarily doctrinal. My issue was that much of what I considered to be unquestionable truth needed to be questioned. Many beliefs I was unshakably committed to, needed to be shaken. The edifice I had built on this faulty theological foundation turned out to be a religious prison. I discovered some of my dearest beliefs were holding me from the truth. My search has largely been an independent search. Only lately have I come to realized that there are many others that have been on the same journey. Living in rural highly religious East Texas has further isolated me in my search for truth. In this blog I will be sharing my discoveries which make me sound like a heretic to the modern Western Evangelical ear. The truth is that now I am finally being restored to original, pre-Latinized orthodox Christianity. What I have shared so far has either piqued your interest, caused you to be concerned about me, or both. I invite you to follow this blog to see the belief shifts that have liberated me into the realm I knew was available.
