If you think about it, our thinking is never an independent activity. What we think with is a gift from God. We have been forever incorporated into the fellowship of the Trinity. We do not do independence. Independence—like separation—is an illusion. All thinking is co-thinking with God. Our thought lives are an entire, unrecognized arena of fellowship. The one who grasps the joint nature of our thinking crosses into a fresh level of intimacy—deeper than words. Expect Him in your thoughts. He is there. Make time to cultivate an awareness of Him in your thinking. Meditate. Contemplate. Ruminate. Think freely. Think boldly. Think outside the lines. Think playfully. Think artistically. Think with curiosity. Think investigatively. Think experimentally. Think creatively. Think gratefully. Think joyfully. The ability to think is a God-given capacity to be treasured. He is there in the midst of the ebb and flow of your everyday thoughts—because He wants to be. Recognize Him. Include Him with gladness. No more autopilot mind—you have company in the cockpit that never sleeps or slumbers. Why would you avoid thinking? This isn’t school thinking, with all the pressure of tests and term papers. This is exploration with the One who delights to guide us into all truth. This is thinking with the one true Know-It-All—who is willing to share. He is the perfect partner in the Rethink Tank.
